The following precautions are important when using a CO gas leakage alarm:
Proper Installation.
Location: Install the alarm near bedrooms, in hallways and near potential CO sources such as above or near cookers, heaters and fireplaces. Avoid placing it in a location where it may be obscured by objects, such as behind furniture or curtains.
Height: CO gas is lighter than air, so the CO alarm should be mounted about 1.5 metres above the floor, or you can refer to the manufacturer's instructions.

Regular Maintenance.
Test functionality: Test the alarm's functionality at least once a month to ensure it is working correctly.
Replace batteries: Replace batteries regularly according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Most CO alarms will have a low battery warning to remind you to replace the batteries.

Inspection and Replacement.
Replacing the Alarm: CO alarms usually have a useful life (e.g., 5-10 years) and should be replaced with a new unit when they expire. Refer to the unit's manual for specific replacement recommendations.
