Sources of Methane Gas in Industrial Settings

Methane gas, a potent greenhouse gas and a significant contributor to climate change, is common in industrial settings due to its multiple major sources.


1. Extraction and processing of fossil fuels

Industries involved in the extraction, refining, and distribution of oil and gas may inadvertently release methane during drilling, well completion, and transportation. Leaks from pipelines, valves, and tanks are common contributors to methane emissions from these industries.


2. Waste management and treatment facilities

Landfills, wastewater treatment plants, and agricultural waste management systems produce methane by breaking down organic matter under anaerobic conditions.
